4-Star Hotel, located in Calle Sant Pau, in the heart of Barcelona's historic centre, next to La Rambla, Gran Teatre del Liceu, La Boqueria market, Plaza Catalunya, Paseo Colón, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) , the Cathedral and the Gothic quarter, and countless other sites of interest, making Barcelona one of Europe's most cosmopolitan cities.
The hotel was originally opened in 1859 under the name Fonda de España, and was later renovated by renowned modernist architect Lluis Domènech in Montaner in the early twentieth century in collaboration with Eusebi Arnau and Ramón Casas. The work was deservedly recognized by Barcelona City Council, as it is in 1904 awarded the hotel with its Diploma of Honour, too “best establishment decorated in the artistic-ornamental style”, and has therefore always been considered a jewel in the crown of Catalan modernism in the city of Barcelona.
